AMMAN — The Italian embassy in Amman on Tuesday celebrated the country’s 73rd national day, according to a statement from the embassy.

This year also marked the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the statement added, stressing that “the long-lasting friendship between our peoples have even more ancient and solid roots”.

“I am personally impressed for the really overwhelming demonstrations of friendship and openness that in my first six months here I have received from all of you, from the political authorities to every sector of Jordanian society,” Italian Ambassador to Jordan Fabio Cassese said in the statement.

The ambassador went on to highlight a recent visit to the Kingdom by Italian President Sergio Mattarella and His Majesty King Abdullah’s 20th anniversary since his Accession to the Throne.

According to the statement, the embassy has a number of cultural initiatives planned for 2019, underscoring Italy’s support for the education sector and archaeological missions.

“We also are working in close cooperation with our Jordanian colleagues to revamp trade and investments, with initiatives both in Jordan and in Italy,” the ambassador stated.
