Issawi meets with Azmi Mufti Refugee Camp representatives

AMMAN — Following His Majesty King Abdullah’s visit to Azmi Mufti Refugee Camp on Monday, Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi, in implementation of Royal directives, met with dignitaries and representatives of the camp at the Royal Hashemite Court on Thursday to follow up on issues and needs highlighted during Monday’s visit.

Issawi, who is also head of the follow-up committee on the implementation of Royal initiatives, said that the meeting was held upon Royal directives to continue reviewing issues concerning the Kingdom, in general, and the camp, in particular, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

He also said that His Majesty also directs officials to activate channels of communication with citizens across the Kingdom, particularly with military retirees.

The chief referred to King Abdullah’s affirmation that Jordan is proceeding with efforts to care for residents of camps at all levels and provide them with all requirements of a decent quality of life, in addition to securing all kinds of support to enable institutions to continue providing necessary services to Azmi Mufti Refugee Camp and all other camps. 

Attendees expressed their pride in King Abdullah and his visit to the camp on Monday, which reflects the Hashemites’ keenness to directly meet with all citizens of the Kingdom and listen to their needs.

They also praised His Majesty’s unaltered stances regarding the Palestinian cause in its capacity as the central case, and supporting the resilience of the Palestinian people on its lands, referring to the King’s endeavours to make the issue a priority for the international community.

The dignitaries praised the Kingdom’s important role in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem as per the Hashemite custodianship. 

They also commended HRH Crown Prince Hussein’s speech during the Algiers summit.

Speaking on the demands of the Azmi Mufti Refugee Camp’s residents, issues were focused on addressing poverty, unemployment and empowering women and the youth to ensure the durability of sustainable development.

They also reviewed problems related to housing and high rent which take a toll on their modest salaries, calling for the provision of some land for underprivileged families.

Other demands included supporting small projects, establishing training centres to run such schemes, supporting charity and development associations, increasing university scholarships for residents of camps, providing financial support to small projects, improving health centres, finding solutions to water problems and increasing buses to and from the camp. 

At the end of the meeting, Issawi stressed that all demands will be considered in coordination with relevant government institutions, noting that some of them will be implemented under Royal initiatives at the Royal Hashemite Court.
