AMMAN — In implementation of His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives following a recent meeting with community leaders in the Southern Badia, Royal Court Secretary General Yousef Issawi and Tourism Minister Nayef Al Fayez on Saturday paid a field visit to Um Al Jimal in Mafraq Governorate to look into mechanisms to rehabilitate the archaeological site.
Issawi and Fayez, accompanied by several officials, toured the historic site and were briefed on the required renovation and technical work to enhance Um Al Jimal’s presence on Jordan’s tourism map.
The 540-dunum city is over 2,079 years old and houses a cathedral and a number of residences that date back to the Byzantine era.
