International Jordanian psychiatric conference begins

AMMAN — Deputising for HRH Prince Hassan, former minister of health Yassin Hasban on Thursday inaugurated the 5th International Jordanian Psychiatric Conference, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Organised by the Jordan Association of Psychiatrists and co-sponsored by the World Psychiatric Association and the Arab Federation of Psychiatrists, the three-day event will cover the most common psychiatric illnesses and the best treatment methods, with a special focus on personality and cognitive disorders, children, adolescents and women issues, as well as substances used in the treatment of depression.
Hasban called for the development of a national strategy for psychiatric health that goes beyond the therapeutic aspects and includes prevention, awareness and rehabilitation of personnel in the sector.
He urged the implementation of the 2011 report's recommendations, prepared by a committee set up at the initiative of HRH Prince Hassan to discuss matters related to psychiatry and psychological care in the Kingdom.
