AMMAN — Minister of Interior Hussein Majali on Thursday called on donor countries and international relief organisations to shoulder their responsibilities towards refugee-burdened Jordan. Majali’s remarks came during a meeting with the UNHCR Representative Andrew Harper.
Majali said Jordan’s ability to continue providing humanitarian aid to refugees hinges on more international assistance.
He also said that Jordan’s long borders with war-hit neighbours have added more security burdens, saying that the security bodies are exerting intensified efforts to control the borders and prevent smuggling and infiltration.
For his part, Harper commended Jordan’s humanitarian efforts to refugees, voicing the UN refugee agency’s keenness on improving its projects and increasing its assistance to Jordan.
