Inflation down by 1% in first third

AMMAN — Inflation in the first third of 2015 went down by 1 per cent, compared to the same period of 2014, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced Sunday. 

Main item groups that contributed to the decline are transportation (15.7 per cent), fuel and lighting (11.7 per cent), vegetables and dried and canned legumes (7.9 per cent), meat and poultry (0.3 per cent) and beverages (1 per cent), according to a DoS report made available to The Jordan Times.

On the other hand, main item groups that witnessed an increase in their prices during the January-April period included rents (5.8 per cent), fruits and nuts (9.5 per cent), tobacco and cigarettes (5.2 per cent), and education (3.7 per cent).

DoS also noted that average consumer prices dropped by 1.1 per cent in April 2015, compared to April 2014.

Major item groups that contributed to the decrease in this year’s April include transportation, fuel and lighting, vegetables and dried and canned legumes, dairies and their products and eggs, and personal objects. 

Rents, education, fruits and nuts, and clothes were among the item groups whose prices went up during the fourth month of 2015, DoS announced.

The DoS report also highlighted that the inflation rate in April 2015 went up by 0.3 per cent, compared to the previous month.
