Industrial production index declines by 0.16% in H1 2024

AMMAN — The General Industrial Production Index decreased by 0.16 per cent during the first half of 2024, reaching 86.21 points compared with 86.35 points during the same period last year.
According to the monthly report issued by the Department of Statistics (DOS) on Monday, the cumulative decline in the Industrial Production Index for the first half of this year compared with the same period last year was due to a 1.03 per cent decrease in the Manufacturing Industries Sector. While, the production of the Extractive Industries Sector increased by 7.27 per cent, and Electricity production rose by 7.28 per cent.
The report also indicated that the General Industrial Production Index for June of 2024 dropped by 3.02 per cent, reaching 89.69 points compared with 92.48 points for the same period last year.
On a sectoral level, comparing June of 2024 with June 2023, the Manufacturing Industries Sector decreased by 5.03 per cent, while the Extractive Industries Sector’s production increased by 2.50 per cent, and the Electricity production surged by 26.37 per cent.
The report also showed that the General Industrial Production Index rose by 2.73 per cent in June compared with May of the same year, reaching 89.69 points from 87.30 points in May.
On a monthly change basis, the General Industrial Production Index for June of 2024 increased compared with May of the same year due to a 0.97per cent rise in the Manufacturing Industries Sector, an 8.67per cent increase in the Extractive Industries Sector’s production, and a 26.68per cent rise in the Electricity production.
