IEC sets resignation dates for local election candidates

AMMAN — The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Monday set the dates of resignation for those wishing to run for provincial and municipal elections, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The Amman Municipality Law and Local Administration Law stipulate that anyone who wishes to run for membership in the provincial council, for the presidency or membership of the municipal council must submit their resignation 60 days prior to the date of candidacy if they are employees in a ministry, governmental department, official public institution, public institution, municipality, Arab, regional or international body, the IEC said, adding that the termination of their contract must be set during this period.
The Amman Municipality Law stipulates that whoever wishes to run for the Amman Municipality Council must submit their resignation 30 days prior the start of the candidacy date, if they are members of Parliament, or employees in any ministry, government department, official public institution, public institution or municipality or an Arab, regional or international body, provided that their contracts are terminated during this period.
