AMMAN — The Lower House’s Legal Committee is scheduled to endorse the general pardon budget law on Thursday, the head of the committee, MP Abdul Monem Odat, said on Monday.
The lawmaker added in a press statement, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that the panel intends to expand the bill within certain constraints the committee has considered on the first day of deliberations over the draft law.
In mid-December, His Majesty King Abdullah directed the government to issue a general pardon law and proceed with necessary constitutional steps for its enactment.
King Abdullah called for giving wrongdoers an opportunity to find the right path and correct their conduct, especially as other people have suffered financially from their misconduct. The move comes in solidarity with citizens who are going through difficult conditions.
