AMMAN — The Lower House Administrative Committee on Tuesday held a meeting to discuss water disruptions in Aqaba with stakeholders.
Committee Chairman Deputy Khamis Atiyeh said the meeting tackled reasons behind the cuts and solutions to the problem.
Panel rapporteur Mohammad Riyati presented a detailed explanation of the problem and its effects on tourism and investment in the port city.
Water Minister Hazem Nasser said the disruptions are due to the high load on electricity and water pumps as a result of the hot weather and the increase in demand, noting that water supplies to the city will be raised by 5 to 7 per cent until the end of September.
He also referred to an agreement with the Arab Potash Company to float a tender to establish a water desalination plant to meet the company’s needs of water and address the water deficit in the city.
