AMMAN — Occupancy rates at hotels in Petra witnessed an improvement of 10 per cent in August and July, in comparison with zero per cent recorded earlier in the year. President of the Jordan Hotel Association in Petra Tareq Tweissi said that Petra District’s 45 hotels experienced difficult circumstances due to the COVID pandemic.
He highlighted the need to support the sector. Tweissi noted that the “Urdun Jannah” programme, which supports domestic tourism, allocates only few hours to Petra, while visitors spend the night in Wadi Rum. He urged the concerned bodies to increase the duration of tourists’ stay in Petra.
