Higher Education Ministry to implement 170 school building projects

AMMAN — Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Mohammad Abu Qudais on Tuesday said that the ministry is implementing 170 school building projects, worth JD107.768 million, as part of its plan to expand the construction of more public schools, and in implementation of the ministry's strategy for the years 2018-2022.
In a statement, Abu Qudais explained that the projects include 68 new school buildings for primary and secondary stages, and one school for vocational education with 1180 classrooms.
He added that the ministry is working on establishing school buildings that include kindergarten sections in approximately 80 schools, with a value of JD177.25 million in various governorates of the Kingdom.
Abu Qudais also stressed that all of these projects will be finalised during the 2021/2022 academic year.
He said that the ministry's strategic plan includes constructing 60 new schools every year, adding that through the implementation of this plan, it seeks to solve the problem of overcrowding in schools, discard the two-shift system and refrain from renting schools.
The number of schools affiliated with the Ministry of Education stands at 3,970, of which 777 are rented while the number of schools with a two-shift system reached 808 schools.
