Heatwave to persist for remainder of week — weather department

AMMAN — Temperatures soared over 40°C in most areas as a heatwave began impacting the Kingdom on Saturday, bringing hot and dry weather for the remainder of the week, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

Temperatures are forecast to slightly increase further on Sunday, with the weather remaining hot in mountainous areas and very hot across the Kingdom, with easterly moderate winds. 

The weather continues to be hot and dry on Monday, with a slight decrease in temperatures on Tuesday, according to the weather department. 

This is the third heat-wave to impact the Kingdom this summer, with temperatures expected to reach 50°C in the Jordan Valley, according to ArabiaWeather.com, which described the weather to be “scorching” during the day and “suffocating” during the night. 

The JMD has warned against direct sun exposure, especially at noon, and advised people to drink a lot of fluids throughout the heatwave.

The weather department also urged people to make sure there are no alcoholic or flammable materials left in their vehicles, and not to leave their children alone in closed vehicles.

Temperatures are forecast to range between 41°C and 27°C on Sunday and Monday in Amman, while on Tuesday they are forecast to hover between 38°C and 25°C.

In Aqaba, temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 45°C and a low of 31°C on Sunday and Monday. They are also expected to range between 43°C and 30°C on Tuesday, according to the weather department.
