AMMAN — A memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday at the Health Ministry between the ministry and the American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan (AmCham-Jordan) on behalf of the research-based multinational pharmaceutical companies’ group (LAWG).

The MoU aims to improve healthcare services and patient access to innovative treatments, said an AmCham-Jordan statement.

The MoU was signed by Health Minister Feras Al Hawari, Mohamad Al Batyna on behalf of AmCham-Jordan, and Mazen Abu Samha on behalf of LAWG.

Hawari stated that signing this MoU emphasises the importance of partnership between the public and private sectors in advancing scientific research and studies to improve medical services.

Batyna highlighted the shared goal of health institutions and pharmaceutical companies to advance equal access to medications and improvement of medical services.

Abu Samha emphasised the importance of improving collaboration between stakeholders with “a clear mission” to improve the lives of Jordanian patients through investing in advancing the health infrastructure in Jordan and improving the regional and international status of the country.

The LAWG has 15 multinational pharma companies that collaborate under the AmCham umbrella to improve healthcare outcomes through partnership with the public sector to ensure fair access to innovative treatments that help patients live better and more productive lives, read the statement.

The memorandum outlines a blueprint for establishing a joint committee to build and upgrade the capabilities of healthcare providers in rare specialties, in addition to training them on scientific research methods that guarantees achieving the best medical results and increases the chance of patients receiving the most promising innovative therapies, especially for serious diseases, the statement said.
