AMMAN — Health Minister Firas Al Hawari and the president and members of the Iraqi Parliament's Anti-drug and Psychotropic Substances Committee on Tuesday discussed prospects for cooperation in training health staff to treat and rehabilitate drug addicts.
Hawari expressed Jordan's keenness to work closely with Iraq to counter narcotics, stressing the need for all countries to work together, especially countries that share borders, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The minister said that Jordanian psychiatrists play a key role in preparing treatment and rehabilitation plans and following up on recovery at treatment and rehabilitation centres across the Kingdom.
Adnan Juhaishi, head of the Iraqi committee and his accompanying committee members stressed the need for closer cooperation with Jordan, referring to the social, economic and psychological damage caused by drugs.
The delegation visited the drug rehabilitation centre in Shafa Badran, where they were briefed on the centre’s treatment process.
