AMMAN — Most economic institutions have reached the recovery stage from the COVID-19 pandemic, Director General of the Social Security Corporation (SSC) Hazem Rahahleh said on Monday.
During a meeting with members of the board of directors of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Rahahleh said that the corporation has extended the Estidama (sustainability) programme until the end of October to guarantee reaching the full economic improvement stage for economic institutions.
He stressed that there is no intention to extend the programme in the future, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He added that health insurance is a main pillar of the proposed amendments to the Social Security Law, noting that it is time for the health insurance to be adopted, especially that relevant studies have been completed in cooperation with the World Labour Organisation.
Rahahleh noted that the health insurance will include subscribers working at private sector institutions and retirees who do not have health insurance, where the insurance will cover all members of the family with a deductibility rate of 5 per cent of the salary of subscribers.
In this regard, he said that 4 per cent will be deducted for treatment at private hospitals and 1 per cent to cover expenses at the King Hussein Cancer Centre.
The director stressed that the draft law allows the optional subscription of children of Jordanian women married to non-Jordanians and Gazans at the SSC, where the current law does not allow this now.
JCC member Asaad Qawasmi praised the SSC’s social, economic and humanitarian role towards society, stressing that amendments to the Social Security Law affect Jordanians and all commercial and industrial sectors.
He also stressed the importance of dialogue launched by the SSC with various civil community institutions and its openness to all views and proposals made by these institutions.
