AMMAN – The Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) announced on Tuesday the launch of an educational channel for students with hearing impairments that offers illustrated lessons in sign language.

The channel started airing lessons for high school students of the literary branch for computer studies, Arabic and Islamic education.

The lessons will be aired in sequence, starting Tuesday. The subjects have also been indexed and classified by to facilitate students’ access.

The HCD said it has reviewed the content of the lessons after it was photographed by specialised teachers and then presented it to a selected group of students with hearing impairments as well as to an expert in sign language translation.

The process of translating the curricula will expand to include the primary stage and the science branch “if necessary”, as stated by the council.

Students with hearing impairments can access the educational channel through the council’s website at www.hcd.gov.jo via the main menu titled "Curricula in Sign Language" or directly visit the YouTube channel called HCD Education for the Deaf.

The council said in its statement that it was determined “to provide everything possible to support persons with disabilities in these difficult circumstances, affirming its readiness to receive feedback and suggestions from students with hearing impairments to improve the content and form of lessons depicted in this unique experience.”
