AMMAN — Japan Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi's visit to Jordan for the fourth phase of strategic dialogue between the two countries was “successful”, with representatives of both nations discussing several issues of mutual interest, a Japanese official said on Monday.

Deputy Press Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Yukiko Okano said during a meeting with journalists that the visit was based on the achievements of both sides, and followed up on the outcomes of His Majesty King Abdullah's important visit to Tokyo last April, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Okano said that talks during Hayashi's visit focused on exchanging views on regional developments and continuing close coordination for regional and international peace and stability.

She also reviewed outcomes of the strategic dialogue, including the signing of the exchange of notes for a  $102.8 million concessional loan to support the general budget in terms of Jordan’s reform efforts and to enhance the resilience of the electricity sector.

The Japanese official also referred to a $6.4 million grant from the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency to finance a project to enhance the capacity of the power system.

Okano also commended Jordan's humanitarian role in receiving and sheltering refugees. She noted that Japan helped Jordan in supporting refugees, stressing the importance of the second Global Refugee Forum, to be held next December with Jordanian-Japanese cooperation.
