AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, HRH Prince Asem Bin Nayef on Friday inaugurated the 85th Hashemite Scientific Councils session, organised by the Awqaf Ministry, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Held at the Conference Hall in the Islamic Cultural Centre affiliated with the King Abdullah I Mosque in Amman, the third session of this year, conducted by Amjad Rasheed, an educator at the World Islamic Science and Education University, focused on the Shafiite madhhab (school of Islamic jurisprudence).
Rasheed discussed the Shafiite School of Islamic jurisprudence and its relation to other madhhabs, stressing the importance of reviving them among Muslims, as they are the jurisprudence and the understanding of the sahaba (Prophet Mohammad’s companions).
He described the scholar Shafii, after who the madhhab is named, as a great thinker, who had a deep and detailed understanding of Koran and Sunna (Prophet Mohammad’s sayings and practices), as his knowledge was based on a diversity of sources from various regions, such as Mecca, Medina, Yemen, Iraq and Egypt.
Awqaf Minister Wael Arabiyat, the Kingdom’s Grand Mufti Mohammad Khalaileh and Chief Islamic Justice Abdul Karim Khasawneh attended the session, in addition to scholars, officials, officers and journalists.
Osama Al Azhari, a professor at Al Azhar University, commended the councils and the choice of the madhhabs as an “important subject” of discussion.
He outlined the relation between the Shafiite school of jurisprudence and the Sunna, noting the widespread observance of the madhhab in several countries.
Held on June 11, the second session focused on the Maliki madhhab of Islam.
The first session, held on June 2, was conducted by Ahmad Khalaileh and focused on the Hanafi madhhab of Islam.
