Hammouri takes part in sixth annual Sulaimani Forum in Iraq

AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Tareq Hammouri on Wednesday participated in the sixth annual Sulaimani Forum.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Iraqi President Barham Saleh said he valued His Majesty King Abdullah’s historic visit of to Baghdad in January, and the economic understandings reached between the two countries, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

The Iraqi president made his remarks while commenting on Iraq’s relations with regional countries.

The two-day forum, organised by the American University of Iraq Sulaimani, was attended by Jordanian Ambassador to Iraq Muntaser Oqlah and General Consul of Jordan in Erbil Haitham Abu Alfoul.

Hammouri is scheduled to participate in a seminar on the region’s economic integration, alongside Iraqi ministers Saleh Jubouri, Luay Al Khateeb and Kurdistan Regional Government Minister Rebaz Hamlan, according to a press release issued by the ministry.

The seminar will discuss the most important projects related to Arab economic integration, as well as developments in the Jordanian-Iraqi relations.

During the seminar, Hammouri will discuss the efforts exerted by Jordan and Iraq to develop economic cooperation in various fields, in addition to the Kingdom’s preparedness to provide all possible support to Iraq.

Hammouri, in the presence of Oqlah, met with a number of Iraqi ministers.

During the meetings, the two sides reiterated both countries’ commitment to implement agreements and memoranda of understanding and overcome obstacles related to trade, in addition to trying to maximise the benefit of agreements to serve the Iraqi and Jordanian economies.

The sixth annual Sulaimani Forum aims tackle a number of economic and political issues such as economic integration in the region, international policy towards Iraq, Iraq’s political roadmap and the future of energy in the country.
