AMMAN — Police on Sunday were searching for a man who allegedly shot and injured a police officer during a chase in an Amman suburb a day earlier, official sources said.
The injured officer was part of a patrol unit that was attempting to stop the suspect in the Hai Nazzal suburb, Public Security Department Spokesperson Maj. Amer Sartawi said.
“The suspect pulled out an automatic rifle and fired at the patrol unit, injuring the police officer in the shoulder, and then fled,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
A second source told The Jordan Times that police have a good description of the suspect.
“We have a good idea about the identity of the man and hopefully we will arrest him soon,” the second source said.
Sartawi said the injured officer was recovering in hospital and is listed in fair condition.
