Gov’t thanks UAE for initiative to pay debts of 1,700 Jordanian women

AMMAN — Jordan on Thursday thanked the United Arab Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) Authority for its donation of AED2 million (JD400,000) to cover the accumulated debts of around 1, 700 Jordanian women.
Minister of Social Development Basma Ishaqat said that a memorandum of understanding will be signed with the Justice Ministry and Public Security Department to accelerate the procedures of paying the debts of around 1,700 women who are either serving prison terms or wanted for failing to pay their accumulated debts, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Fahd Abdul Rahman Bin Sultan, Deputy Secretary General for International Aid at ERC, was quoted by Petra as saying that the initiative was part of the UAE-Jordan cooperation with the aim of giving these women the chance for a new life.
