Gov't grants set of tax, fees discounts

AMMAN — The Cabinet on Wednesday granted a set of tax and fees discounts, in addition to fine exemptions owed to the municipalities, to incentivise tax payers to pay overdue amounts accumulated over previous years, provided that to be paid by June 30, 2022.

The new rules included granting a 10 to 25 per cent discount on property taxes for this year and the previous year, with the discount rate dependent on the property use, residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and payment method, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Under the decision, the exemptions included all due fines related to overdue property taxes.

Those who paid 2022 due property tax, before the decision, can receive the discounts on property taxes in 2023 payments.

Properties owned by the municipalities and the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) are also offered a 25 per cent discount for tenants.

Under the decision, exemptions by 25 per cent were granted for the investors who signed contracts with the GAM and the municipalities in 2021 and 2022.   

The Cabinet also approved an agreement signed by the Ministry of Health and Pfizer to supply the Kingdom with medications for 8,000 patients, with a total value of $2 million.

During the session, the Council of Ministers approved the resignation of four members of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA): Sharhabeel Madi, Mahmoud Khalifat, Suleiman Al Najaddat and Abdullah Yassin. The Cabinet decided to appoint another four, namely: Hamza Al Haj Hassan, as deputy chairman, Mohammed Abu Taleb, Ramzi Al Kabariti and Abdullah Al Najaddat.
