Gov’t continues meetings with private sector representatives

AMMAN — The government on Wednesday continued its meetings with private sector representatives to set the government’s priorities for the next two years.

The meetings also aim to identify the key policies and required reforms, in addition to the requirements of the priority economic sectors. 

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh, during a meeting with the board of directors and members of the Jordan Strategy Forum (JSF), reviewed the main pillars of the government’s priorities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The minister highlighted the main challenges facing the Kingdom’s economy, notably the high rate of unemployment, economic slowdown, the decline in foreign direct investment, in addition to the impact of the pandemic impact at the local and global levels.  

The government has developed the document of the government’s priorities for 2021-2023 in accordance with the Letter of Designation and Jordan Vision 2025, as well as a number of sectoral strategies and the objectives of the sustainable development agenda and the government’s executive programme for the years 2021-2024.

The priorities are meant to promote the private sector to generate new jobs, increasing domestic and foreign investments, scaling up national imports through introducing a set of measures and reforms, Petra reported. 

JSF Vice Chairman Karim Kawar drew attention to the need for enhancing the private-public sectors partnership to reach the envisioned recovery and overcome the impact of the pandemic. 

JSF CEO Ibrahim Saif called for supporting the enabling environment through developing strategies and setting organisational legislations and structures, noting that the characteristics of the national economic recovery “have become clear”.
