AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates denounced the Israeli extremist settlers' attack on Tuesday on a Jordanian aid convoy heading to Gaza via the Beit Hanoun crossing.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ministry's Spokesperson Sufian Qudah held Israel responsible for the assault on aid convoys, emphasising that the Israeli government's failure to fulfill its responsibilities as the occupying power and its allowance of such attacks is a "breach of its legal obligations".

Qudah reiterated Jordan's call on the international community to bear its responsibilities and take a clear stance in condemning the ongoing Israeli violations of international law.

He also underlined the importance that Israel adheres to international law, secures the passage of aid convoys and stop settler attacks.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Tuesday affirmed that the Israeli government bears responsibility for the extremist settlers attack on the Jordanian aid convoy.

"The Israel govt is fully responsible for the attack on a Jordanian aid convoy en route to Erez by radical settlers who again committed their despicable crime unchallenged by Israeli authorities. We urge SC to act effectively to ensure protection of aid convoys & workers," Safadi wrote X platform.

He called on the Security Council to take action to ensure the protection of aid convoys and those working in them.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned on Tuesday Israel’s taking over of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing and its closure to humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza, who are experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.

Qudah said that the Israeli occupation forces’ control of the Rafah crossing and their prevention of humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, as well as the expansion of their “aggressive” military operation in Rafah, are a blatant violation of international law and humanitarian law.

Qudah reiterated his call to the international community, especially the Security Council, to fulfil its responsibilities to immediately halt the escalating war on Gaza, stop the ongoing and continuous Israeli violations of international law, and hold those responsible accountable.
