Gov’t keen on incorporating ICT in education — official

AMMAN — The government is working to integrate technology in public school classrooms, an official said Wednesday.

“The Jordanian government represented in the Ministry of Education is keen on integrating ICT tools and latest technologies in schools out of its strong belief that technology plays a key role in improving the educational process,” said Qasim Khateeb, director of the Queen Rania Centre for Educational Technology and Information.

Speaking at the 2015 Instructional Technology Summit, which attracted several local and international experts in the field, Khateeb said education is the future and the ministry will not spare any effort to collaborate with local and international partners to implement projects in this regard.

The summit is co-organised by the Ministry of Education, the Industrial Development Bureau at the ministry of economic affairs of Taiwan and Huang’s Trade and Technology Corporation. 

Robert Chou, minister at the Commercial Office of the Republic of China (Taiwan), reviewed his country’s experience in the field of e-education and integrating technology in the classroom.

Chou added that the forum provides an opportunity for exchanging expertise and networking.

Stressing that the potential for cooperation between Jordan and Taiwan in incorporating ICT in the learning experience is high, Lilin Huang, CEO of Huang’s Trade and Technology Corporation said: “Jordan enjoys the needed ground for adopting latest solutions and technologies in the field of smart education.”

“Jordan has the necessary talent and infrastructure for adopting such solutions, especially since young people in the Kingdom are tech savvy and when tech solutions are provided in classrooms adoption will be strong,” Huang told The Jordan Times on the sidelines of the event.

“We are keen to work with Jordan to boost integration of technology in schools,” she added.

Participants at the forum discussed the roadmap to smart education and the impact of tech integration in schools, among other related topics.
