AMMAN — The German Federal Foreign Office has committed a top-up of 12.5 million euros to the World Food Programme (WFP) in Jordan for the year 2022.
Resulting from a special-purpose contribution of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, the top-up is part of an additional one billion euro funding package approved by the German Parliament in November to combat the global food crisis and strengthen food security, according to a German embassy statement.
In Jordan, the funds will provide nutrition-sensitive food assistance to refugees and other crisis-affected populations. After having been decreased by one third in September 2022, the top-up has helped WFP to reinstate the transfer value for beneficiaries in the communities as of December.
The German Ambassador to Jordan, Bernhard Kampmann, said: “With this top-up, we want to send a strong signal of support to refugees, our humanitarian partners and the Government of Jordan. Germany stands by your side in these challenging times and maintains the level of its assistance.”
This year, Germany’s humanitarian assistance to WFP in Jordan in the context of the Syria crisis has amounted to 67.85 million euros. This is a slight increase after providing WFP with 67 million euros in 2021.
