German delegation visits Zaatari camp

AMMAN — Six members of the German parliamentary group “Arabic Speaking Countries in the Middle East” recently visited the Zaatari Refugee Camp, a UNICEF statement said.

The delegation met refugees and humanitarian actors, and observed UNICEF’s water supply and sanitation activities.

In December 2014, the German government provided a 15-million euro grant to UNICEF Jordan to sustain essential water, sanitation and hygiene services for vulnerable Syrian refugees in the Zaatari camp in the years ahead.

“This contribution will improve the water quality, sustainability, access and long-term cost effectiveness in providing water, and in managing wastewater through the installation of a water network and wastewater system in Zaatari camp,” the statement said.

UNICEF Jordan and its partners currently provide 3.5 million litres of water daily to some 80,000 Syrians in the camp.
