‘Gaza field hospital treated over 1.9m patients since 2009’

AMMAN — Since it started operations in January 2009, the Jordanian military field hospital in Gaza has treated over 1.9 million patients, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Monday.

“We are here with our people in Gaza… to exert all medical and humanitarian efforts in their service,” Petra quoted Col. Mazen Kinani, the hospital’s commander, as saying.

He stressed that the medical teams are working under Royal directives to serve the people of Gaza to the best of their abilities.

On the first day of 2017, Kinani said hospital cadres received an emergency case involving an elderly man.

The case required surgical intervention and was treated successfully, he added.

The hospital’s director, Lt. Col. Karim Rashdan, said the patient was suffering from severe abdominal pain which was diagnosed as caused by Gilmore’s groin hernia.

A two-hour surgery was conducted to treat the patient, Rashdan noted.

The patient and his family commended the hospital’s services and thanked the doctors for their “brotherly stance” in support of Gaza.

Since their deployment to the coastal enclave in mid-December 2016, Gaza 45 cadres have conducted 18 major and minor surgeries.

In the past few years, Jordan has dispatched several military field hospitals to various areas in need, such as Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt and the West Bank to assist in providing healthcare and treatment to local residents.
