AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has launched a campaign to alleviate traffic congestion ahead of Eid Al Adha.
With less than a week remaining until Eid Al Adha, the city is witnessing an influx of Jordanians returning from abroad to celebrate the holiday with their families.
Additionally, the Eid period prompts increased shopping activities, further exacerbating traffic congestion in popular commercial areas.
Recognising the importance of public safety and the need to mitigate traffic jams, GAM is urging drivers to refrain from parking in designated public transport spaces.
By doing so, GAM aims to create smoother traffic flow and ensure the safety and convenience of all commuters during this festive period.
As traffic congestion remains a persistent challenge, Jordanians are also calling on authorities to address the behaviour of some motorcycle riders on the roads.
“Irresponsible driving practices, such as cutting off other vehicles, have contributed to increased traffic congestion and compromised road safety,” Jordanian Hisham Hamdan told The Jordan Times.
“Authorities are urged to enforce stricter measures and promote responsible driving habits, to ensure the safety and harmony of all road users,” Bayan Issam, another citizen, told The Jordan Times.
Motorcycle riders who cut off vehicles and change speed or direction disrupt the flow of traffic and pose significant risks to themselves and others, said Issam.
“Weaving between lanes, often without proper signalling or adherence to traffic rules, is commonly seen among motorcycle riders. These manoeuvres increase the likelihood of accidents, potentially resulting in injuries or even fatalities,” Issam added.
