GAM announces partial road closures for works

AMMAN — The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) on Thursday announced continued maintenance, lighting and paving campaigns on a number of main streets and squares, which will see partial traffic closure at some locations from Friday and Saturday nights, which were due to start at midnight on Thursday, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

Mohammad Faouri, director of joint management at GAM, announced the streets to be partially closed will be: King Abullah II Street from the Khalda intersection until the Nisser traffic lights, from midnight on Thursday until 8pm on Saturday, as well as from the Elba House traffic lights until Sweileh circle, from midnight on Thursday until 8pm on Friday. 

In addition, the closures will include Princess Alia Street, from Queen Zain Street traffic lights to the 6th Circle, from Friday 6am until Saturday 8pm. 

Also, GAM announced maintenance and lighting works in the 4th Circle area and the tunnel from the 5th Circle to the 3rd Circle, which will require a partial closure of the lane above the tunnel from the 4th Circle to the 3rd Circle, on midnight Thursday unti Friday 6am.

The tunnel from the 5th Circle to the 3rd Circle will also be partially closed on Friday midnight until 6am.

Faouri said that GAM chose Friday and Saturday to carry out the works because there are fewer vehicles on the roads during the weekend and at night time, so as to avoid traffic congestion and to ensure the safety of the municipality’s workers.

GAM called on motorists to avoid work sites as much as possible and use alternative routes, to drive carefully and within the speed limit, and to abide by traffic rules
