AMMAN — Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat on Tuesday received Commander of the US Marine Corps Forces Central Command Lt. Gen. William Beydler and his accompanying delegation, with whom he discussed means of enhancing bilateral cooperation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Also on Tuesday, Freihat participated in a symposium for senior officers, which was held on the sidelines of the 2018 Eager Lion, Petra reported.
He said that restructuring the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), under directives from His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of JAF, aims at ensuring the ability of the army to counter any threat to the Kingdom's security and stability, in addition to empowering JAF to work with allies and partners from Arab and foreign countries.
The army chief noted that organising the Eager Lion drill and similar events helps exchange expertise and thoughts with participating countries, which highlights their deep-rooted ties, expressing his appreciation for the US support in this regard.
Maj. Gen. Jon Mott, the director of exercises and training at the US Central Command, highlighted the importance of benefiting from such opportunities to develop joint action in order to enable countries to defend themselves under all circumstances with the use of all land, air and maritime defence types.
Mott added that border security "greatly" contributes to limiting the spread of terrorist organisations, noting that working as partners can help achieve security in the region.
