AMMAN — A forum on food safety and trade issues opened sunday in Amman with the patronage of Prime Minister Omar Razzaz, according to a statement sent to The Jordan Times.
The two-day event aims to bring together 250 participants from the Arab food industry, Arab chambers of commerce and industry and universities for discussion on food safety and trade facilitation in the Arab region.
Titled “Arab Food Industries for Food Safety and Trade Facilitation”, the event is also meant to provide Arab food manufacturers with a platform to voice challenges they face trading in the region and beyond, according to the statement.
Additionally, the forum aims to identify viable solutions to help the private sector improve food safety and facilitate regional trade.
The forum, supported by the Swedish International Development Agency, comes in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 9: “building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and fostering innovation”.
The event was organised by the Arab Federation for Food Industries in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, the League of Arab States, the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organisation, the Arab Organisation for Agricultural Development, the Union of Arab Chambers and the Jordanian Chamber of Industry, the statement added.
