Forum brings Jordanian-Kuwaiti media cooperation to forefront

AMMAN — Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Monday met a Kuwaiti delegation and hailed the media cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting with the delegation, participating in the Jordanian-Kuwaiti Media Forum, the premier highlighted the strong ties between Jordan and Kuwait and stressed the Kingdom’s keenness to develop bilateral cooperation, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The prime minister said that the forum is a “manifestation” of media cooperation between Jordan and Kuwait, lauding the “broad margin” of the freedom of the press in both countries.

Razzaz noted that Jordan and Kuwait share a similar “political culture” based on rationality and a reliance on dialogue in dealing with regional causes and challenges. 

He added that the two countries are dedicated to sustaining Arab trust and cooperation, Petra reported. 

The Kuwaiti delegation lauded Jordanian efforts towards “ensuring the success of the media forum and embedding its fruitful outcomes in enhancing media relations that benefit from shared expertise in the field”. 

Delegation members also pointed to the great contribution of the Jordanian workforce in supporting Kuwait’s journey of growth and development. 

On Sunday, Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson Jumana Ghunaimat attended the inauguration of the two-day forum. 

Jordanian-Kuwaiti relations are strong at the political, economic and social levels, Ghunaimat said, adding that the two countries share a united stance on regional causes, according to Petra.

The minister explained that the forum provides an opportunity to exchange expertise and ideas for the development of Jordanian and Kuwaiti media.

Ghunaimat said that the forum also enhances the importance of the media’s message and its role as a monitoring authority. 

She presented Jordan’s experience with launching the media literacy programme, which aims at enhancing consciousness when dealing with the overflow of information by embedding media literacy into school curricula.

The programme also seeks to broaden students’ critical thinking skills and their ability to handle the cyberspace, Ghunaimat added. 

The minister noted that the region is facing various challenges, which require a united body of public and private sector media institutions to disseminate the truth and to eliminate the spread of lies and speculation. 

Deputy of the Kuwaiti ambassador to Jordan, Adel Zu’bi, reiterated the significance of the conference in reflecting the depth of Jordanian-Kuwaiti relations and urged the exchange of expertise to develop the media sectors in the two countries.
