AMMAN — Former director general of the Social Security Corporation (SSC) Maen Nsour was sentenced on Thursday to two months in prison by the Amman Magistrates Court for not implementing a Higher Court of Justice ruling to reinstate two female employees at the SSC.

The court also charged Nsour with obstructing justice for refusing to apply the May 2011 court order, according to an official source.

The two women were part of a group of 60 employees who were appointed by former SSC director general Omar Razzaz in August 2010, the source told The Jordan Times.

Shortly after assuming his post, Nsour annulled Razzaz’s decision, prompting the two women to file a lawsuit against him, the source added.

When Nadia Rawabdeh took over as SSC director general in September 2012, she reinstated the 60 employees, but the case was still in court, he explained.

Attorney Musab Izmigna, who is representing the two women, plans to appeal the verdict at a higher court “seeking a harsher sentence”, a second source told The Jordan Times.

Nsour was unavailable for comment on Thursday.

The verdict is subject to appeal by the prosecutor general, the plaintiffs and the defendant at a higher court within the next 30 days.
