Forces from 25 countries take part in annual military training drill at KASOTC

AMMAN — Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti on Sunday attended the launch of the 12th annual international Warrior Competition at the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Centre (KASOTC), which saw the participation of 40 teams representing 25 countries.

The competition is part of the annual plans and training programmes of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) to develop the level of efficiency and preparedness among its personnel in a way that enhances their capacity and efficiency to meet operational requirements and face possible threats, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

KASOTC Director General Brig. Gen. Raed Dora said that the centre is responsible for realising the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the JAF, through establishing an international centre for training special operations, counterterrorism and security units.

Dora added that the participating teams had the opportunity to test their efficiency and capabilities to adapt to operational circumstances to conduct their missions accurately and professionally, while working with team spirit and preparing suitable plans according to developments in the field.

The inauguration included several events implemented by the JAF and security apparatuses, where attendees watched a security drill to protect a VIP, with the participation of Royal Guards, followed by another drill to break into a building with the use of a helicopter and a land break-in with the aid of the Special Unit/71 to free hostages and arrest terrorists. 

Huneiti also toured an exhibition that saw the participation of companies supporting the competition to highlight the top technological developments in the defence industries for special operations and counter-terrorism teams.

KASOTC chairman, several ambassadors, military attaches in Jordan, senior JAF and security department officers and various civil officials attended the launching ceremony.

Participants in the Warrior Competition are given “the unique opportunity for training and networking at one of the most advanced combat-training facilities in the world”, according to the Warrior Competition website.

The second team of the Special Royal Guard Brigade was nominated the winner of the best warrior shooter competition within the 12th annual international Warrior Competition at the KASOTC.
