AMMAN — Differences among members of the Foodstuff Traders Association’s (FTA) administrative body have resulted in its dissolution, an FTA official said Monday.
Five members of the nine-member administrative commission had resigned, which led to its dissolution, FTA Director Zuhair Harb said.
“The internal by-law of the FTA stipulates that if more than half of the administrative body’s members resign, it will be dissolved,” Harb told The Jordan Times over the phone.
In such cases, the FTA director takes on the role and duties of association president and calls members of the general assembly for elections as soon as possible.
Most of the dissolved commission’s members will participate in the next elections, according to Harb.
“FTA elections will be held on March 2, and the association will be receiving candidate applications between February 21 and 23,” the FTA director said.
Those who wish to run for the elections must be Jordanians, owners of a member company and have been FTA members for at least one year, Harb said, noting that employees of member companies are not eligible.
The FTA has 190 members, including merchants, importers and foodstuff producers.
It was established in 1973, with its founding 10-member council comprising the most prominent merchants at the time, according to Harb.
