AmMAN — The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) on Wednesday said that food shop and facility closures during the first half of the holy month of Ramadan have declined by nearly 30 per cent, compared with the same Ramadan period last year.
The JFDA has attributed this decline to the shop owners’ commitment to health standards and self-monitoring programmes accredited by the JFDA, the Jordan News Agency Petra, reported.
According to the administration, 31 closures were issued since the beginning of Ramadan for critical violations, as well as 140 suspensions for moderate ones, 2,518 warnings issued and 96 businesses referred to court.
JFDA officers conducted 5,011 field visits during Ramadan, marking an increase by 20 per cent in comparison with the last year’s visits.
More so, about 37 tonnes of spoiled food were destroyed, in the two weeks since the beginning of the fast, with a decrease by 1 per cent, as reported by Petra.
The administration called on the public to report their complaints via text to 117114 or through WhatsApp on 0795632000.
