AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday participated in the extraordinary meeting of the Arab League at the ministerial level, which discussed ways to embark on a political process to halt the Israeli attacks on Gaza and achieve peace and security.

Speaking during the meeting, Safadi reiterated the Kingdom's stance that calls for halting the dangerous escalation and war on Gaza.

He warned that the entire region will suffer from the ramifications of violence and failure to reach peace based on the two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The minister also called on the international community to immediately start delivering humanitarian assistance, food, medicine, water and fuel to Gaza, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He underscored the significance of respecting international humanitarian law and protecting civilians on both sides. Arab countries have denounced the killing of civilians.

Safadi also stressed the Kingdom's unaltered and  historical position in support of  the Palestinians’ right to freedom and decent living in their independent, sovereign state.

He added that the Jordanian and pan-Arab positions are clear and will not change in supporting the Palestinian people, condemning the aggression against them and violations of their rights.

The minister stressed that the "catastrophic situation" in Gaza and the deteriorating situation in the West Bank require effective and immediate action to de-escalate and return to negotiations as the only means to achieve a just peace that prevents the recurrence of future outbreaks of violence and wars.
