FM, Pakistani counterpart talk ties, region over phone

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday received a phone call from Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, during which they discussed means to enhance bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The two ministers stressed keenness to sustain efforts to enhance bilateral ties, reiterating the importance of identifying priorities in preparation for holding expanded talks between the two countries later this year, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
Talks also covered ways to enhance cooperation under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), where the two ministers reviewed preparations to hold the 48th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC, which is headed and hosted by Pakistan next March in Islamabad.
They also went over the latest regional developments, mainly the Palestinian cause and efforts exerted to solve regional crises.
The Pakistani minister stressed the “deep-rooted brotherly” Jordanian-Pakistani relations, praising the Kingdom’s role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, in instilling peace and security in the region.
The two ministers also agreed to continue coordination and consultation over issues of mutual concern in a bid to serve joint interests.
