AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and General Intelligence Department Director Maj. Gen. Adnan Jundi on Wednesday night discussed developments in the Mideast conflict with Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation Saeb Erekat and Majid Faraj, chief of the Palestinian Intelligence.

Talks came as “part of coordinating positions and efforts to deal with developments related to the Palestinian issue”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Thursday.

During the meeting, held in Amman, the two sides warned against the repercussions of the absence of political efforts to solve the conflict, stressing that the entire region would not enjoy security, stability or comprehensive peace without a just solution that restores the legal rights of the Palestinian people, especially their rights to freedom and establishing a state on their national soil.

They reiterated that the two-state solution, which guarantees establishing and independent and sovereign Palestinian state within pre-1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only path for a just and comprehensive peace.

The two sides called on the international community to take immediate and effective measures to open a “political horizon” to realise the two-state solution.

They also called for halting Israeli unilateral measures that are “undermining peace efforts”.

The Jordanian officials outlined the Kingdom’s efforts, led by His Majesty King Abdullah, to support the Palestinians and resume the peace process.

The meeting comes amid expectations that the US would soon announce its already controversial peace plan to end the conflict, dubbed “Deal of the Century”.
