AMMAN — Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Tuesday discussed with UN envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura over the phone the latest developments in the Syrian crisis and ways to find a political solution to it.
Judeh expressed Jordan’s support for the envoy in his mission, reiterating the Kingdom’s clear stance on the conflict, explaining that since the outbreak of the crisis, the Kingdom called for reaching a political solution that guarantees the security and stability of Syria and its unity with the participation of all its factions.
Judeh referred to the humanitarian repercussions of the Syrian crisis on the Kingdom as a result of receiving more than 1.4 million refugees on its land and providing them with needed services.
He also reviewed Jordanian efforts exerted to adopt UN Security Council Resolution 2165 related to the influx of humanitarian aid to Syria, which was endorsed to ease the humanitarian situation in the war-torn country and end the suffering of the Syrian people, especially that there are more than 10 million Syrians who need help.
De Mistura was appointed as UN envoy to Syria early in July succeeding Lakhdar Brahimi, and will start his mission by visiting the region in September.
