AMMAN — Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh participated on Wednesday in the advisory meeting of Arab ministers of foreign affairs which was held in New York, on the sidelines of the 69th UN General Assembly.
During the meeting, held at the request of Arab League Secretary General Nabil El Araby, participants discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, especially in Syria, Libya, Yemen and Palestine, and examined Arab diplomatic efforts to deal with these issues.
In remarks at the meeting, Judeh stressed the importance of rallying all efforts to confront terrorism in all its forms, highlighting the measures that Jordan has taken in this regard to contain radicals, dry up their financing resources, boost interfaith dialogue and highlight the true teachings of Islam which calls for moderation and rejects extremism.
Judeh also said that without a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause, which is the root cause of conflict in the region, radicalism will continue to fester and the world will not enjoy peace and security.
He highlighted the need for political solutions to current regional issues, including those in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Libya.
Also on Tuesday, Judeh participated in a ministerial meeting, chaired by Norway and attended by representatives of the US, the European Union, the Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Palestinian Authority, which was held within the framework of the contact committee for the donor community in support of the Palestinian Authority.
Judeh reiterated Jordan’s support for the Palestinian Authority and noted that the root cause of repeated Israeli attacks against Gaza, including the recent offensive on the strip, needs to be dealt with by ending the Israeli occupation and providing the Palestinians with the chance to enjoy a decent life.
Moreover, Judeh stressed the importance of resuming peace negotiations, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
