AMMAN — Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel have arrested five people suspected of 48 house burglaries and the theft of seven vehicles in Amman, the Public Security Department (PSD) said on Monday.
Central Amman CID personnel identified two suspected thieves, both of whom were wanted for several crimes, the PSD said in a statement.
During an investigation, they confessed to burgling 36 houses and stealing seven vehicles with a third accomplice who was arrested by CID cadres in Irbid.
Upon arrest, the suspects were found in possession of a number of the stolen items and the tools used to commit the thefts.
Meanwhile, East Amman CID personnel identified and arrested two people suspected of robbing 12 houses. Some of the stolen goods were found in a vehicle belonging to one of the suspects, the PSD said.
The suspects confessed to stealing from 12 houses in Qweismeh and Jabal Al Zohoor, and more stolen goods were found in one of the suspect’s houses.
Stolen gold and jewellery was also recovered from various areas of Qweismeh, where the suspects had allegedly buried it.
CID personnel recovered money, gold, jewellery, mobile phones, laptops, cameras, “expensive” watches and a pistol from the suspects, the PSD said, adding that the suspects had re-enacted the thefts. An investigation is ongoing, the PSD added.
The PSD warned the public not to leave large sums of money, jewellery or any expensive belongings unattended and to make sure windows and doors are locked when leaving home.
