First phase of Dutch-funded agricultural project launched

AMMAN — Agriculture Minister Khaled Hneifat on Tuesday launched the first phase of the Dutch agricultural support project, in cooperation with the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), funded by the Dutch government.

The importance of this project lies in the introduction of modern agricultural technologies to face climate challenges and support smallholding farms, in addition to bolstering the skills of agricultural extension agents, which will positively affect the agricultural sector, bring about agricultural development and achieve food security, as part of the national plan for sustainable agriculture, he said. 

The project will be implemented over a period of four years, starting from 2023 to 2026, in partnership with the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture, NARC and the Jordanian Cooperative Corporation. 

In addition, the project targets 1,300 small- and medium-sized farms in the Kingdom, enhances the skills of 100 agricultural extension agents in the Ministry of Agriculture on climate-smart farming methods, and raises awareness of 75,000 consumers and farmers on the production and consumption of healthy food.
