AMMAN — In the presence of HRH Prince Ali, the Regent, and HRH Princess Rym Ali, First Lady of Panama Lorena Castillo García on Monday officially inaugurated the Panamanian embassy in Amman.

The first lady and Panama’s Ambassador to Jordan Tomás Guardia raised the Panamanian flag at the embassy in the capital’s Abdoun area, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In a speech during the inauguration ceremony, the ambassador noted that President of Panama Juan Carlos Varela reaffirmed Panama’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with Jordan.

During a visit to Jordan in March last year, Varela announced that the commissioning of a diplomatic mission to Amman was underway, the statement said.

Ambassador Guardia highlighted the important role of the embassy in strengthening ties between Jordan and Panama.

He added that inaugurating the embassy in the presence of the first lady and the Regent reflects the level of distinguished “friendship” between the two countries, and their keenness to develop them.

The Panamanian ambassador praised the Kingdom’s humanitarian role in hosting millions of refugees from neighbouring countries and providing services and shelter.

The embassy launched its operations in Amman last November, but was now officially opened.

During King Abdullah’s meeting with Varela last year, His Majesty and the president of Panama discussed expanding cooperation between the two countries in all areas of mutual interest.

Cooperation on the economic frontiers, as well as investment, security, energy and marine navigation fields, was highlighted during the summit.

Varela described the King’s visit as an opportunity to bring Latin America and the Middle East closer.
