AMMAN — Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of a Filipina in connection with the murder of her fellow national in an eastern Amman neighbourhood over the weekend.

The victim, who was not identified by officials, was found dead with bruises on her body and signs of struggle at her apartment.

“We have arrested a woman who knew the victim and she confessed to murdering her over an instant argument,” Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

He told The Jordan Times that the suspect first claimed that she saw the “victim’s husband murdering her”.

“The suspect attempted to mislead investigators by making up the story, but they did not believe her story and they interrogated her and discovered that she was the perpetrator,” according to Sartawi.

The police official did not reveal the nature of the argument that led to the woman’s murder.

The suspect was ordered to be detained for 15 days at Jweideh Women’s Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre pending further investigations.

A senior judicial source told The Jordan Times that the criminal court prosecutor was notified and he will start questioning the suspect on Wednesday.
