Fayez, French senators talk ties, region

AMMAN — Jordan and France should activate parliamentary diplomacy to further develop bilateral relations in various fields, and build economic partnership in various sectors, Senate President Faisal Fayez said on Wednesday.
During a meeting with the head and members of the French-Jordanian Friendship Committee at the French Senate, as part of his official visit to Paris upon an invitation from head of the French Senate, Fayez stressed the “deep-rooted” ties between the two countries, which are “based on mutual respect”, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He also stressed the importance of boosting cooperation in addressing the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic and overcoming the ramifications of the Russian-Ukrainian war and its subsequent impact on global food and energy security.
The president also highlighted the need to solve regional conflicts according to political frameworks that shun violence, commending France’s stance supporting His Majesty King Abdullah’s endeavours to reach a just peace in the Middle East by finding a solution to the Palestinian issue according international legitimacy resolutions and the two-state solution.
Meanwhile, Fayez reviewed the Kingdom’s reforms to improve the investment environment and protect investors in the safe and stable environment in Jordan, and provide them with benefits and incentives.
French senators stressed the importance of supporting the Kingdom in overcoming the repercussions of the pandemic and surrounding situations, voicing Paris’ keenness to cooperate with Amman in various fields of mutual interest.
They also called on the international community to continue providing support to the Kingdom, enabling it to perform its humanitarian role with Syrian refugees and to reach an end to regional conflicts and crises.
