AMMAN — The Jordan Farmers Union on Thursday decided to suspend the sit-in planned next Sunday near the Prime Ministry. The sit-in was announced to protest a government decision to stop the recruitment of guest workers, but the union said it suspended the protest after discussions with Labour Minister Ali Ghezawi, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
A committee from the ministries of agriculture, water and labour has been formed to discuss the issue. The Labour Ministry asked for more time to reconsider an agreement signed with Egypt, to ensure the rights of employers and determine a way to bring guest workers who illegally moved to other sectors back to agricultural work.
