AMMAN — A total of 26 underprivileged families on Tuesday received keys to housing units in Mafraq as part of a Royal Initiative to support underprivileged families, which was launched following directives by His Majesty King Abdullah.
The initiative, which was launched in 2005, covers the entire Kingdom and aims at providing a decent and stable life for beneficiaries in a healthy and safe environment and improving their living conditions, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi, head of the follow-up committee for the implementation of Royal Initiatives, handed the keys over to the beneficiaries at a ceremony held in Al Qasabah region in Mafraq, some 80km northeast of Amman.
During the ceremony, Issawi said that Royal Initiatives aim at improving citizens’ living standards using projects focusing on health, education, youth, social development and income generation.
King Abdullah’s top priority is to improve people’s living conditions and the services offered to them, as well as enhancing their role in serving their communities, the Royal Court official said.
Issawi pointed out that beneficiaries were chosen according to “transparent standards” set by the Ministry of Social Development, adding that those families are in dire need for care and decent living conditions.
For her part, Social Development Minister Basma Ishaqat said that continuous Royal Initiatives nationwide reflect the “model relation between the leader and his people”, pointing to King Abdullah’s guidelines for the government to improve services for citizens.
During the ceremony, many beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the initiative, according to Petra.
While in Mafraq, Issawi also inaugurated Manshiyat Bani Hassan Park and Erhab Park following His Majesty’s directives as part of a Royal Initiatives project being implemented in the governorate.
